About the Job
As a Senior Developer - Enterprise Backup for Virtualization Workload, you will build and maintain backup and restore capabilities for virtualized workloads. The work will span host agents, storage engines, control services, data workflows, and cloud connectors. You will work on high-performance systems where reliability and consistency are core expectations. You will be expected to make technical decisions, participate in design reviews, and guide others on patterns and best practices.
What you will be doing:
Core development
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance software for enterprise-grade backup and restore for virtualization environments.
- Develop features across the full stack, including host-agent, storage engine, control services, data services, and cloud connectors.
- Contribute to architectural discussions, define best practices, provide mentorship to other developers, and advocate for a strong systems engineering discipline.
- Participate in, drive, or lead initiatives or community projects that align with our product domain.
Troubleshooting and optimization
- Debug complex issues involving filesystems, virtualization layers, and storage systems.
- Analyze performance traces and logs to identify bottlenecks.
- Improve throughput, minimize latency, and ensure data integrity during backup and restore operations
- Help improve engineering practices for testing, code reviews, and documentation.
Core Technical Competencies
- Virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Filesystems such as ext4, XFS, ZFS, or NTFS.
- Programming in Go, C++, Java, or Python.
- Storage endpoints, snapshot APIs, and metadata structures.
- Cloud environments where hybrid deployment is common.
Process and collaboration
- Work with product and QA teams to define the scope and validate expected behavior.
- Align development with release schedules and milestones.
- Contribute to continuous improvement in build, test, and release processes.
What we expect from you:
Experience & technical expertise
- 5+ years of professional software development experience (with a strong preference for candidates with systems/infrastructure/storage focus).
- Strong foundations in file systems (e.g., ext4, XFS, ZFS, NTFS) and virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, KVM, Xen).
- Understanding of cloud-based enterprise products in on-premises, cloud, or hybrid environments.
- Strong programming skills (Go is a plus; alternatively, C/C++, Java, or Python with the willingness/ability to pick up Go).
- Excellent debugging and system-level problem-solving skills spanning across logs, performance traces, storage I/O, and virtualisation internals.
- Good communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to drive results in a fast-moving engineering environment.
Good to have
- Experience with backup, snapshot, or deduplication systems.
- Familiarity with containerised environments (Docker / Kubernetes) and container-storage/backup interaction.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Familiarity with S3 or Blob interfaces.
- Published contributions or commit history in relevant open-source projects (storage, virtualization, containers, DevOps).
- Contribution history to relevant open-source areas.
- Working experience with Go.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
