What is IDrive Vault Central?

IDrive Vault Central is a web-based console for Vault appliance. Using it user can perform operations like configuring the Vault appliance, invoking the IDrive plugin for cloud backup, creating the users for local backup, handling the periodic snapshots. It has lot more options to fulfill all user requirements to use the vault appliance as their local storage server.

 

How do I create or add users?

To create or add users,

  1. Log in to the IDrive Vault Central with the root user credentials.
  2. Select 'Account' from the top menu.
  3. Click Users > Add User. The Add User screen appears.

  4. Assign username, Full name, Email, password, and Password confirmation.
  5. Press OK to create user with the given details.

Note: The newly added users will be added automatically to scheduled job's backup set for backup.

 

How do I enable snapshots for backup?

Snapshots for backups are enabled by default.

To enable periodic snapshot,

  1. Log in to the IDrive Vault Central with the root user credentials.
  2. Select 'Storage' > 'Periodic Snapshots'.
  3. Click 'Add Periodic Snapshots'. The Periodic Snapshots screen appears.

  4. Update the Volume / Dataset as 'VaultData/BackupData' and update other options as per your requirements.
  5. Click 'OK'.

 

I am unable to connect to the IDrive Vault Central via http://idrivevault.local/. What should I do?

You can connect to IDrive Vault Central by using its IP address.

To find the IP address,

  1. Access the Console Setup screen of the appliance using the monitor and keyboard connected to the appliance. Press Return or Enter on the keyboard to refresh the output.
  2. Alternatively, you can setup a static IP address for vault central if you do not have DHCP in you network.

To setup static IP,

  1. Enter 1 to select 'Configure Network Interfaces'.
  2. Enter 1 to select em0.
  3. If prompted to delete an interface, enter y to delete the current network interface. This redirects you to the initial setup screen.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3, then enter n for step 4.
  5. Enter n to decline 'Reset Network configuration'.
  6. Enter n to decline DHCP.
  7. Enter y to configure IPv4.
  8. Enter the IP address and netmask (for e.g 192.168.0.2/24).
  9. Enter n to decline IPv6 configuration.
  10. Push 6 and then press 'Enter'.
  11. Enter your 8.8.8.8 or your custom DNS server IP for Nameserver1. Then press 'Enter'.

 

How do I change the IDrive Vault Central app root password?

To change the password,

  1. Log in to IDrive Vault Central with root user credentials.
  2. From the top menu, click 'Account' > 'Users'.
  3. Select the root user and click 'Modify User'. The Modify User screen appears.
  4. Enter the password and click OK.

 

How do I change the network setup for IDrive Vault Central from DHCP to static IP?

To configure IPv4 for static addressing,

  1. Log in to IDrive Vault Central with root user credentials.
  2. From the top menu, go to Network > Interfaces > Add Interface. The 'Add Interface' screen appears.
  3. Select the network interface card from the 'NIC' drop-down menu.
  4. Provide an Interface Name, and clear 'DHCP' checkbox.
  5. Assign IPv4 Address and IPv4 Netmask and click 'OK'.
  6. Go to 'Global Configuration' tab, assign IPv4 Default Gateway and 'Nameserver 1'.
  7. Click 'Save'.

Note: After network changes, it is important to ensure the IDrive Vault appliance and the IDrive Plugin are connected to the same network.

 

I am trying to log into IDrive Vault Central, but an error message appears. What should I do?

Vault Central

To fix the issue please follow the steps mentioned below.

  1. Log in to IDriveVault Central via ssh with root user.
  2. Run the commands mentioned below.
    • service nginx restart
    • service django restart

 

How to check if my Vault device is having any hardware issue?

To check the health status of your Vault device, please follow the steps mentioned below.

  1. Login to IDriveVault Central as root user.
  2. Click on the Alert icon at the top right corner.
  3. Vault device alert system provides a visual warning of any conditions that require attention.
