What is IDrive Vault (Snapshots)?

IDrive Vault (Snapshots) is a Hybrid backup solution with the combination of both local and cloud backup for businesses. Your data is not only secure and accessible from anywhere via the cloud, it can be easily restored as well to maintain business continuity in the event of a disaster. This solution enables you to backup all your computers to Vault appliance, where your data will be easily restorable across a speedy local connection. You can also run cloud backups directly from the device using the IDrive Vault Cloud Backup plugin rather than leveraging your computer's bandwidth. Data backed up is protected with 256-bit AES encryption and an optional private key, known only to you.

What is IDrive Vault Cloud Backup app?

IDrive Vault Cloud Backup app offers a simple and secure online backup solution for all your computers. It replicates selected data to the cloud, protected locally across the Local Area Network (LAN) to the Vault appliance. That means, it makes all data accessible anytime and ensures business continuity in the event of any disaster. All data transferred from the IDrive Vault appliance is protected with 256-bit AES encryption with an optional private key that it known only to you, for utmost security.

 

How do I log in to IDrive Vault Cloud Backup app?

To backup your data from the IDrive Vault appliance to the cloud, simply log in to the IDrive Vault Cloud Backup app via web browser. After validating your IDrive Cloud Backup credentials, the plugin will redirect you to the 'Login to your IDrive account' page where you will need to provide your IDrive account username and password.

To log in,

  1. Log in to IDrive Vault Central.
  2. From the left menu, go to 'Plugins > IDrive' and follow the instructions to launch the IDrive Vault Cloud Backup plugin login page.
  3. Enter your IDrive plugin root credentials and click 'Login'.

How do I perform cloud backups?

Backing up from your local Vault appliance to the IDrive cloud adds an extra layer of protection to your data. You can perform immediate backups or schedule automated backups, with an option to choose which data you’d like to backup from the Vault appliance.

To backup your files and folders:

  1. Login to the IDrive Vault Cloud Backup plugin using your root credentials.
  2. On the 'Login to your IDrive account' window, enter your IDrive username and password and click 'Login'.
  3. Click 'Backup', and select the files and folders you’d like to backup. The selected files and folders will appear in the 'Contents of Backup Set' section.
  4. Click restore-icon and choose a backup location. Then click 'Backup Now'.

  5. To schedule a backup, click 'Schedule Backup'.
  6. Provide the schedule backup parameters and click 'Update Schedule'. The backup operation will take place at the scheduled time.

Note: You can exclude individual files/folders (for example, a file extension like tmp), from your backup sets. From the 'Select Files/Folders for Backup' list, click the drop-down arrow by the respective file/folder and click 'Add to Exclude List'.

 

How do I perform restores?

  1. Click the 'Restore' tab.
  2. Select the files/folders you want to restore.
  3. Click restore-icon displayed next to the 'Restore location' to choose a different location.

How do I schedule a backup?

To schedule a backup,

  1. Click the 'Backup' tab, and select the files/folders you wish to backup.
  2. Click 'Scheduler'. The 'Schedule Backup' screen appears.
  3. Select the settings for schedule backup (Hourly, Daily, or Monthly) and click 'Update Schedule'.
  4. You can set the following parameters for your backups:
    • Start Time
    • Daily backups
    • Monthly backups
      Note: If the date for a scheduled monthly backup exceeds the number of days in a month, then the backup will occur on the last date of the month.
    • Hourly Schedule
    • Start backup immediately
    • Cut-Off time
    • Email notification

How do I cancel an ongoing backup operation?

  1. Click the 'Scheduler' tab.
  2. Click 'Cancel Ongoing Job'. The Cancel Job screen appears.
  3. Click 'Ok' to cancel the job.

How can I change the default location of my backup job?

  1. Log in to the IDrive Vault Cloud Backup app using the root user credentials.
  2. Under the 'Backup' tab, click restore-icon to change the backup location. The 'Select your Backup Location' screen appears.
  3. Select the new backup location on your account, and click 'Ok'.

How do I change the location of my restore job?

  1. Log in to the IDrive Vault Cloud Backup plugin, and click the 'Restore' tab.
  2. Click restore-icon displayed next to ‘Restore location’. The 'Select your Restore location' screen appears.
  3. Select the new restore location and click OK.

How can I exclude certain file(s) / folder(s) from being backed up?

You can exclude file(s)/folder(s) from being backed up during manual and scheduled backups in two ways:

  • Exclude files/folders based on full path name
  • Exclude files/folders based on partial name

To exclude files/folders,

  1. Log in to the IDrive Vault Cloud Backup plugin, click your username in the top-right corner, and then click 'Preferences'.
  2. Click the 'Exclude' tab.

To exclude files/folders based on the full path name:

  1. Click the add-icon icon next to 'Exclude files/folders with full path names'. The 'Add files/folders to your exclude list' screen appears.
  2. Select the files/folders to exclude and click 'Add to exclude list'.

    Note: 'File / Folder is missing' indicates that app is unable to find the selected file/folder in the Vault appliance.

To exclude files/folders based on partial name:

  • Enter partial names of files / folders in the 'Enter partial names' section entername-icon and then click add-icon.

How can I stop my automatic backups at a particular time?

  1. Click the Scheduler tab.
  2. Enable the 'Cut-off Time' option and set the time you want the backup to stop.
  3. Click 'Update Schedule'.

How do I check the status of my backup or restore job?

  1. Log in to the IDrive Vault Cloud Backup plugin and click the 'Log' tab.
  2. View the progress of your job in the 'Status' section:
    • 'In Progress' indicates your job is still running.
    • 'Success' indicates all the files were successfully backed up/restored.
    • 'Aborted' indicates the backup/restore job was cancelled.
    • 'Failure' indicates the majority of files were not backed up/restored.

Note: Click the 'Scheduler' tab to check the status of your scheduled job.

 

Can I check the number of files backed up or restored for a finished job?

Yes. You can check the number of files backed up/restored for an ongoing or a finished job.

  1. Click the 'Log' tab. The 'Log' window appears.
  2. Under 'Details', click detail_icon for a particular job and the detailed log screen appears.
  3. Under the 'Summary' section, you can view the number of files backed up or restored.

How can I find out how much storage space is available for a backup?

  1. Log in to the IDrive Vault Cloud Backup plugin and click quotecheck-icon.
  2. A quota will be calculated and the percentage of 'Storage used' will be displayed.

How do I create a new (shared) folder for restored data?

  1. Log in to IDrive Vault Central with your root credentials.
  2. Click 'Wizard' and click the 'Next' button twice.
  3. Type any 'Share Name': < Share-Name > .
  4. Select 'Windows (CIFS)'.
  5. Click the 'Ownership' button. Select the 'user' and 'group', and click the 'Return' button.
  6. Click the 'Add' button.
  7. Click the 'Next' button twice and click the 'Confirm' button.
  8. CIFS share with the specified share name will get created.

To link the shared folder with an IDrive plugin restore location:

  1. Click Jails > Storage > Add Storage.
  2. Select IDrive plugin jail name.
  3. In the 'Source' field, click 'Browse' button and then select '/mnt/VaultData/< Share-Name' > .
  4. In the 'Destination' field,Click 'Browse' button and then select '/RestoredData'.
  5. Add '< /username > ' after RestoredData in Destination edit box and click OK.

 

How do I change my IDrive Vault Cloud Backup plugin password?

To change your password:

  1. Log in to IDrive Vault Central with your root credentials.
  2. Go to Jails. Select 'customplugin_1'.
  3. Click the Shell icon from the bottom of the screen. The Shell screen appears.
  4. Type passwd and press 'Enter'. You will see a 'New Password' prompt.
  5. Provide a new password and press 'Enter'.
  6. A 'Retype New Password' prompt will appear.

How do I configure the static IP address for the IDrive Vault Cloud Backup plugin?

  1. Log in to IDrive Vault Central with your root credentials.
  2. From the top menu, go to 'Jails > Configuration' and uncheck the 'IPv4 DHCP 'checkbox.
  3. Click 'OK'.
  4. Go to 'Jails', select 'customplugin_1', and click the 'Edit Jail' button.
  5. The 'Edit Jail' screen appears.
  6. Assign 'IPv4 address, IPv4 netmask' and 'IPv4 default gateway'.
  7. Click 'Save'.

 

I am unable to view the data backed up to IDrive Vault appliance via IDrive Vault Cloud Backup app. What should I do?

  1. Log in to IDrive Vault Central with your root credentials.
  2. From the top menu, go to 'Jails > Storage'.
  3. Select the IDrive Plugin jail '/mnt/VaultData/BackupData'.
  4. Make sure that 'Mounted' is 'True' for the IDrive plugin.
  5. If 'Mounted' is 'False', select the IDrive plugin jail and click 'Edit'. The 'Edit' screen appears.
  6. Check the 'Mounted' checkbox and click 'Ok'.

 

How do I restart the IDrive Vault Cloud Backup plugin using the IDrive Plugins link?

  1. Log in to IDrive Vault Central with your root credentials.
  2. From the left menu, go to 'Jails'.
  3. Select the IDrive plugin jail, and click the 'Restart' icon.

 

How do I find the IP address of IDrive Vault from the web dashboard?

  1. Open the terminal in your computer.
  2. Type the command: 'ping idrivevault'.
  3. Press 'Enter'. The information about the IP Address will be displayed.
