The news that came few months ago, on the massive theft of federal employees’ data from the Office of Personnel Management is the most devastating cyber-attack of its kind we have ever seen! This has opened the eyes of normal citizens that their data is highly prone to such thefts, if not protected in the right manner. Safeguarding data is undoubtedly a challenging task, no matter where they are stored. This in-turn led people to rethink while securing their data to offsite locations.
Though cloud solution is the most obvious choice for backing up your personal and small business data for their attractive offerings, there are people who still hesitate using them on these notes. But the fact is, a right cloud solution with the right security measures can cover up the chances of data security breaches. For example, if you are using a cloud service which gives you the choice to set private keys that is not saved even on the vendor’s servers, the chance to even internally intrude to your data is void. That’s the approach we have used in IDrive to strategize our security measures.
Security Measures in IDrive
Your data is secured using military grade touchstones during transfer and storage to the cloud. The security measures in IDrive include Encrypted Protection, Periodic Network Audits, RAID Based Storage, and Physical Security Measures.
Your data is encrypted with us
Nobody can access your sensitive data! In IDrive, all your data is encrypted using 256-bit AES encryption during transfer and storage with an optional private key while signing up to your account. This is a unique key that is not stored anywhere in IDrive’s servers. That means no one but you will have access to your data.
We conduct periodic network audits
IDrive has proactive measures to defend against malicious attackers by conducting periodic third party reviews of our network infrastructure to check for known application and service vulnerabilities. This ensures that your data resists against the threats present in the network.
Your Data is stored on our RAID based storage
Data reliability is assured by storing multiple copies of your data! The data is stored in RAID arrays to ensure redundancy. IDrive recommends you to locally store your data, as our desktop client now supports encrypted local storage with private key option.
Our infrastructure ensures physical protection
We are well equipped to protect your data, with our physical environment! The IDrive application is hosted at our data centers in the United States. The world-class facilities are custom designed with raised floors, HVAC temperature control systems with separate cooling zones and seismically braced racks. IDrive has the widest range of physical security features, including state-of-the-art smoke detection and fire suppression systems, motion sensors, 24/7 secured access, video camera surveillance and security breach alarms.
